Hormonal Birth Control Depletes These Essential Nutrients

Research shows hormonal birth control depletes many important nutrients.

Think about it: our bodies are bombarded every day by chemicals and toxins; in the food supply, water supply, in the air, in our cosmetics and toiletry products. Synthetic hormones can be an extra stress on an already burdened liver.

Here is a list of the most common nutrient deletions hormonal birth control users may experience:

  • Folate (folic acid)

  • Magnesium

  • Selenium

  • Vitamin B2 (riboflavin)

  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine)

  • Vitamin B12 •vitamin C

  • Vitamin E

  • Zinc

If and when the body experiences nutrient depletions, physical symptoms like depression or mood swings can manifest. These symptoms are indicative of an imbalance and long left to fester, can be a driver of inflammation and more progressive (and of course) unwanted symptoms!

This is yet another area where and why a nutrient-dense diet is so incredibly important! Consuming a varied diet rich in whole, plant-based foods can help counteract nutrient depletions and minimize unfavorable symptoms. Taking a quality multivitamin is ideal as well, especially for long-term users of hormonal contraception.

Listen to your body, and if you have questions or concerns at all, do not hesitate to speak with your provider.
